The Pawn

Pawns are the least powerful piece and are the most numerous, with 8 pawns per player

Pawns advance by a single square unless on the starting move, in which they can move two

Pawns can take a piece diagonally in front of them

Pawns must continue straight across rosette, unless taking a piece. Note how E9 is available for the pawn to move forward

Pawns have a unique ability to promote to any piece when they reach the end of either side of the board
